The Adventure Begins

Leaving Boston 9/11

We had a pretty uneventful bus trip down to Boston. In the airport, we were waiting for a table for dinner and a booth was empty. But the staff would only seat parties of 3 or more in the booth. We asked a gentleman in line to join us and he was willing. Turns out he is a professional bowler representing the country of Kosovo. Ranked 64th out of 150 in the World Bowlers Conference.

Flight was direct from Boston, finally departed at 10:45pm. Even on Lufthansa, the seats were crammed in coach. Very uncomfortable and Cheryl wasn't feeling very good. The flight was direct to Frankfurt so that helped.

Arriving Frankfurt 9/12

After arriving at Frankfurt airport, we had to navigate through the airport till we reached Passport control. Went real fast.  Didn't have to fill out those silly forms, just passed right into main airport.   Then another long walk to baggage claim, followed by another long walk and wait at the rental counter.   We were early so our reserved car wasn't ready.   We had a choice between a BMW or a Fiat.  Chose the Fiat and saved $$… then (you guessed it) another long walk to get the car.

The adventure begins.   Using Google Maps on iPhone we set our destination for Schwedelbach.  Took a little bit to get used to traffic patterns as we changed roads about 1/2 a dozen times the first 20 minutes.  Eventually, we were on the main road to Kaiserslautern, the city near Schwedelbach.  We found the hotel right away...a welcome sight!

Suffering pretty badly from lack of sleep and jet lag, we barely were in the room and needed to crash right away.  Slept about 4 hours.  We then headed to a little village nearby - Porrbach - for dinner.
Jagerschnitzel at last.  We both got the same thing. Oh Jagerschnitzel!  We missed you for the last 40 years!!!!

Then back to the room again to sleep.  It's quiet here in Schwedelbach...now population of 1,029 (used to be around 300)  still surrounded by farmland and the familiar wafting manure on the breeze...wish our family could be here to experience this magical place...
